—Hello again proggers—
Buh. That was the entire README when this started. There is now an actual window, an actual rhythm game, and music that can move the window around. Quite a bit of distance between those two things. Also fixed the timing thing every rhythm game guide tells you to get right first. Naturally I did that last.
started with a rectangle and immediately gave it permission to move my desktop around
Cat or dog? buh → playable
Okay let's get into it~
—Yap—
First Deadbeat devlog. The baseline is a rhythm game where the song can reach outside the usual playfield: window effects and story files are part of the prototype now, alongside the notes and scoring. Very early, but it does things, yipee.
—The Great Suffering—
1 — A Window, Then An Actual Game
Got a window open and drew a rectangle. From there, music playback, moving notes, keyboard input, and points came together into the first playable rhythm prototype. The rectangle has been promoted.
2 — The Song Can Move The Window
Added helpers to move and resize the window, then connected them to the demo song. Window effects now happen with the music instead of just being functions sitting there waiting for something to call them.
3 — Story Files, Also Connected
The same event setup can create and delete story files. That gives the prototype another way to do things outside the usual rhythm-game screen. There is no full story flow yet, just the pieces that will support it.
4 — Basic Controls And The Timing Fix
Added the score display, pausing, restarting, and timing adjustment. Fixed song events getting delayed when a frame takes too long, which is one of those things that sounds obvious once it has already gone wrong.
5 — So I Don't Forget How To Run It
Wrote down the setup and build steps, plus a short description and launch command in the README. Future me now has something more useful than buh.
—FAQ (no one asked these but they are here)—
Q: What is a "progger"?
A: A human programmer. You. The one who started with a rectangle and somehow ended up moving the entire window.
Q: Is there a story to play through yet?
A: Not yet. Story-file events are connected to the music, but the actual story comes later.
Q: Can it be paused and restarted?
A: Yes, both are in, along with timing adjustment.
—This is the end*—
*end for now, frame timing permitting
BUH!!!
Historical note: These dates and session boundaries were reconstructed. Hours are retrospective work estimates inferred from the development changes and timing. Overnight gaps and inferred breaks are excluded; this is not measured activity.
